I’m an evangelist. I’ve converted Sam and his mother to bread and cheese. French cheese and good French bread, they cannot resist and now seek out these things on their own. Now Sam’s mother even likes croissants. She didn’t know what they were until recently. This morning Sam called the nearest Valor early to order his usual dozen croissants for the week and we got there just as they came out of the oven. He wanted to get on the road as soon as possible to beat any end-of-holidays traffic, so we had already packed up the car, were just waiting for the croissants to be ready. I ran inside the house to give his mother the two croissants Sam had offered her from the paper tray of six hot, fragrant, buttery croissants. She could not resist. She took the whole thing and wouldn’t share. I told Sam and he wouldn’t believe me. She had come out to wave bye-bye and he asked her if she really could eat all those croissants. Yes. Bye-bye. My work is done. Amen.
